his book, The Wreck of the Henrietta Marie:
An African-American's Spiritual Journey to
Uncover a Sunken Slave Ship's Past, published
by Random House. Mr. Cottman is a journalist
and scuba diver who participated in an expedition
to survey a sunken slave ship off the coast
of Florida and discovered strong feelings
of kinship during the experience. The book
tells the stories of the slaves and slavers
who were lost on the ship. The paperback edition
is called Spirit Dive, published by Three
Rivers Press.
